Traffic and Safety
L.M. Sandler & Sons recognizes and appreciates the concern of Virginia Beach City Council, local civic leagues and the Shore Drive Advisory Committee regarding traffic and safety along Shore Drive, a major thoroughfare in the Bayfront area. That is why they have hired one of the nation’s leading traffic planning firms, URS, to study the traffic patterns at First Court and Marlin Bay Drive, the two lighted intersections most proximate to Indigo Dunes and make recommendations so as not to impair traffic flow along Shore Drive.
Fortunately the City of Virginia Beach is planning in 2006 to add or extend turn lanes at both intersections. L.M. Sandler will make further improvements. URS’ conclusion is that with these enhancements, the level of service will be a "C", on a scale of A-F, at both intersections, both during morning and afternoon peak hours (7-9 a.m, 4-6 p.m.), which is considered an adequate level of service. L.M. Sandler & Sons is committed to working closely with the City of Virginia Beach, the Shore Drive Advisory Committee and its Safety Task Force as well as local civic leagues, to examine other options to improve traffic flow and safety along this important corridor.
